Flooring Installation FAQ
Answers to the questions Las Vegas homeowners ask us most about choosing, installing, and caring for wood and wood-look floors. Still have a question? We are happy to help.

We have grouped the most common flooring questions by topic, from wood flooring installation and luxury vinyl plank to floor replacement, stairs and trim, and financing. If you do not see your question, reach out and we will get you a clear answer.
Wood Flooring Installation
A single room usually takes one to two days, while a full home of roughly 1,500 to 2,500 square feet typically takes three to five working days. Subfloor prep, the product you choose, stairs, and trim work all affect the timeline. We provide a realistic schedule in your written estimate so you can plan around the work.
Yes. Subfloor prep is essential to a lasting floor. We inspect, clean, repair, and level the subfloor and address moisture concerns before any new flooring goes down. Skipping this step is the most common cause of floors failing early, so we never rush it.
We handle the heavy lifting, but a few simple steps help things go smoothly. Clear small items and breakables from the rooms we will work in, plan for pets to be in a quiet area, and let us know about any furniture you would like moved. We will cover everything else during your estimate so there are no surprises on installation day.
In most cases, yes. We work room by room when possible and keep the job site clean and contained. We will discuss the schedule and any temporarily off-limits areas before we begin so you can plan your days around the work.
It comes down to how each room is used, your budget, and the look you want. We bring samples, talk through durability, water resistance, and maintenance, and recommend the best fit room by room. You can also compare options across our wood, engineered wood, laminate, and luxury vinyl plank service pages before your estimate.
Hardwood and Engineered Wood
Yes. We install solid hardwood and engineered hardwood flooring throughout the Las Vegas valley. With proper acclimation and moisture management, hardwood can be a beautiful, long-lasting choice even in our dry desert climate. We will give you an honest assessment of what works best in your specific home.
It can be an excellent choice with proper installation. Our dry climate and slab construction require careful moisture management and acclimation. In some slab homes we recommend engineered wood for added stability, and we will always be straightforward about which option suits your home best.
Engineered wood is one of the most reliable choices here. Its cross-layered core resists the expansion and contraction caused by changing indoor humidity, which makes it ideal for our concrete slab homes. You get the look and feel of real hardwood with less risk of cupping or gapping.
Yes. The top layer is genuine hardwood bonded to a stable, cross-layered core. The surface looks and feels like solid hardwood, but the engineered construction stands up better to the dry, fluctuating indoor conditions common in Las Vegas homes.
Solid hardwood can typically be sanded and refinished several times over its life, often every 7 to 10 years or longer with normal use. Many engineered floors with a thicker wear layer can be lightly refinished once or twice, while thinner veneers are not meant to be sanded. We help you choose the right wear layer for your goals.
White and red oak are durable, forgiving favorites. Hickory offers hardness and dramatic character, maple gives a clean modern look, and walnut delivers rich, deep tones. We help you match species to your style and traffic level during your estimate.
Laminate and Luxury Vinyl Plank
Very much so. Luxury vinyl plank is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and easy to clean, which makes it a favorite for homes with kids, pets, and heavy daily traffic. It delivers a convincing wood look while standing up to spills and wear in kitchens, entries, and living areas.
Quality rigid-core luxury vinyl plank has a waterproof core, so the planks will not swell from spills or moisture. This makes it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and entries, and a great choice for running one continuous floor throughout the home.
Premium luxury vinyl plank includes UV-resistant wear layers that hold up well to bright desert light. For rooms with intense direct sun, we can recommend products specifically built to resist fading, and window coverings add an extra layer of protection.
Yes. Quality laminate offers a realistic wood look and strong scratch resistance at a budget-friendly price, which makes it popular for bedrooms, living areas, and whole-home updates where value matters. It is one of the best ways to modernize a home without overspending.
Standard laminate is water-resistant for quick spills but should not sit in standing water. Many newer laminates offer water-resistant cores, and for very wet areas such as full bathrooms we usually recommend luxury vinyl plank instead.
Yes, luxury vinyl plank is an excellent choice over slab. We level and prep the slab first, since any unevenness can telegraph through the planks. Proper prep is what makes the finished floor look and feel premium rather than hollow or uneven.
Floor Replacement and Floor Removal
Yes. Removal, haul-away, and disposal of your existing carpet, tile, or flooring is part of our replacement and removal services and is itemized clearly in your estimate. Tile removal is more labor-intensive, and we account for that up front.
It depends on the extent of the damage and the product. A few damaged boards or a squeak can often be repaired, while widely worn, water-damaged, or dated floors are usually better replaced. We give you an honest recommendation based on what is best for your home and budget.
Floor removal, especially tile demolition, creates dust, and we work to keep it contained. We protect adjoining rooms, manage the work area, and clean up thoroughly at the end of each day. While no removal is completely dust-free, we take real steps to protect your home.
In most cases, yes. We work to match species, color, and finish so repairs blend in. If the original product is discontinued, we will discuss the closest available match before starting so you know what to expect.
Yes. Most Las Vegas homes are built on concrete slabs, and we install over them regularly. We inspect and level the slab, address moisture, and choose slab-friendly products and methods, which is why engineered wood and luxury vinyl plank are such popular choices here.
Stair Flooring, Baseboards, and Crown Molding
Yes. We install stair flooring using wood, laminate, and luxury vinyl plank, with matching treads and risers so your staircase flows seamlessly with the rest of your floors. Stairs require extra craftsmanship and are itemized separately in your estimate.
Yes. New baseboards or shoe molding are a natural finishing step after flooring, and many homeowners take the opportunity to upgrade dated trim. Clean, well-fitted baseboards frame the floor and give the whole project a finished look.
Yes. Crown molding installation is one of our services, and it pairs well with a flooring project to elevate a room from floor to ceiling. We can include it in the same project so the work stays coordinated and efficient.
Not always, but it is often worth it. Existing baseboards can be reused in some cases, while in others they may be damaged during removal or simply look dated next to a fresh floor. We will give you an honest recommendation during your estimate.
Estimates, Scheduling, and Project Timelines
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation estimates. We measure your space, discuss your goals and product options, and give you a clear written estimate so you know the scope and cost up front, with no pressure to commit.
The biggest factors are the material you choose, the square footage, subfloor prep, removal and disposal of old flooring, and any stairs or trim work. Laminate and luxury vinyl plank are generally more budget-friendly, while hardwood and premium engineered wood sit higher. Your written estimate breaks it all down clearly.
Scheduling depends on the season and our current workload, but we work to start projects promptly. Reach out for your free estimate and we will share realistic availability for your project.
We aim for no surprises. Our written estimate spells out the scope clearly. If we discover a hidden issue once the old floor is removed, such as subfloor damage, we will discuss it with you and get your approval before doing any additional work.
We install flooring throughout the Las Vegas valley, including Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, North Las Vegas, Paradise, Spring Valley, Enterprise, Centennial Hills, Sunrise Manor, and Winchester. If you are nearby, reach out and we will confirm we cover your area.
Las Vegas Climate and Home Considerations
Our dry desert air and long air-conditioning seasons cause wood to lose moisture and can lead to minor seasonal movement. We acclimate materials on site, set proper expansion gaps, and recommend stable products so your floors stay flat and tight year-round.
Yes, and it matters more here than in many climates. Letting wood and wood-look materials adjust to your home's indoor conditions before installation helps prevent gapping, cupping, and buckling later. We build acclimation time into the project schedule.
Yes. Slab construction influences which products and installation methods work best. Engineered wood and luxury vinyl plank are particularly well suited to slabs, while solid hardwood requires extra moisture management. We tailor our approach to your subfloor.
Strong, direct sunlight can fade some floors over time. We can recommend UV-resistant products for sun-exposed rooms, and window coverings help protect any floor from prolonged direct sun.
Financing Questions
Vegas Wood Floor Pros is not a lender and does not provide loans directly. Financing may be available through third-party financing providers. You can ask about possible options during your estimate, and we can point you toward what is available. See our financing page for more detail.
No. Approval is never guaranteed. Any financing is offered by a third-party provider and is subject to credit approval, provider terms, eligibility, and other conditions. Payment amounts, rates, and terms are set by the provider, not by Vegas Wood Floor Pros.
We recommend starting with a free estimate so you understand your project scope and budget first. That makes it easier to discuss whether third-party financing options may be a good fit for your project.
Of course. Financing is simply an option some homeowners ask about. You are always welcome to pay for your project directly without involving any third-party financing provider.
